Abstract:Suzana Tratnik je sociologinja, prevajalka, publicistka in ena izmed najbolj uveljavljenih sodobnih slovenskih pisateljic. Do sedaj je objavila pet zbirk kratkih zgodb in dva romana. Namen diplomske naloge je bil ugotoviti in podati značilnosti proze Suzane Tratnik, predstaviti posamezna literarna dela ter prikazati dogajalna prizorišča s poudarkom na opazovanju razmerja med vasjo in mestom. Proza Suzane Tratnik je bogat vir za raziskovanje tako vaškega kot mestnega dogajalnega okolja. Del teh opisov izvira iz avtoričinega lastnega življenja. V delih prevladuje prvoosebna pripovedovalka, dogajalni prostori pa so povečini konkretno geografsko ali prostorsko določeni. V avtoričinih delih lahko zasledimo bogate opise družbenih odnosov, družinskih razmer ter navad in običajev, značilnih za podeželsko življenje, prav tako pa lahko zasledimo tudi tematiko modernega življenja v urbanih prostorih z vsemi njegovimi prednostmi in slabostmi. Avtorica pogosto poudarja vpliv zunanjega okolja in družbenih razmer na življenje in razvoj literarnih likov. Odnos med literarnimi liki in njihovim zunanjim življenjskim okoljem je lahko konflikten, saj jih okolje pogosto ne sprejema takšnih, kot v resnici so, in jih poskuša spremeniti. Razmerje med vasjo in mestom se v prozi Suzane Tratnik kaže predvsem v spoznanju, da lahko zunanje okolje različno vpliva na življenje posameznika, vendar pa lahko posameznik prav tako vpliva na zunanje okolje s svojimi dejanji, obnašanjem in doživljanjem sveta okoli sebe. Za posameznika je ključnega pomena predvsem njegovo bogato notranje življenje ter pozitivno dojemanje in sprejemanje samega sebe, kar pa ni vedno preprosto – tudi ali pa morda prav zaradi okolja, v katerem se posameznik nahaja.

Title:THE THEME OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VILLAGE AND CITY IN SUZANA TRATNIK'S PROSE
Abstract:Suzana Tratnik is a sociologist, translator, publicist and one of the most established contemporary Slovene female writers. Her literary work to date includes five collections of short stories and two novels. The purpose of this diploma paper was to establish the characteristics of Suzana Tratnik’s prose, to present her literary works and to demonstrate the narrative spaces with the emphasis being on the relationship between village and city. Suzana Tratnik’s prose is a plentiful source of information on both rural and urban narrative spaces. Part of these descriptions originate from the author’s life. Her works are prevailed by the first-person narrator; narrative spaces are mostly geographically or spatially identified. Her literature is plentiful in the descriptions of social relationships, family situations, customs and traditions that are characteristic for rural life, but we can also find a theme of modern urban life with all its advantages and disadvantages. The author frequently emphasizes the influence of external social environment on life and development of her literary characters. Tratnik’s literary characters often find themselves in a conflict with their surrounding social environment because they are not accepted for who they are and are constantly being pressured to change in order to fit in. The relationship between village and city in Suzana Tratnik’s prose is reflected in the realization that external social environment can have different effects on individuals’ life, but individuals are also able to affect their environment with their actions, demeanours and interpretations of the world they find themselves in. A fulfilling inner life and self-acceptance are of crucial importance in individuals’ life, but it is not always simple to attain them, which could also be the consequence of the individuals’ social environment.
