Abstract:V dveh ločenih obdobjih (2004/2005 in 2005/2006) smo v SV Slovenji v eksaktnih poljskih poskusih (naključni bloki v štirih ponovitvah) proučevali vpliv roka setve (SD1 – sredina avgusta; SD2 – sredina septembra in SD3 – sredina oktobra) prezimnih metuljnic: podzemne detelje (Trifolium subterraneum), inkarnatke (Trifolium incarnatum), črne detelje (Trifolium pratense) in ozimne grašice (Vicia villosa) na pridelek suhe snovi rastlin (SS), količino akumuliranega (AN) in simbiotsko vezanega (Nsimb) dušika, ter na količino mineralnega (Nmin) dušika v tleh.

Title:Nitrogen accumulation and symbiotic fixation with winter legume cover crops
Abstract:In two separate experimental periods (2004/2005 and 2005/2006) carried out in NE Slovenia in exact field trials (randomised block with four replicates), we investigated the influence of sowing date (SD1 – in mid August, SD2 – in mid September and SD3 – in mid October) on winter legumes (Trifolium subterraneum, Trifolium incarnatum, Trifolium pratense and Vicia villosa) on dry matter yield and soil N cycling. The control treatment was Lolium multiflorum. In the case of the legume cover crops in SD1 we documented from 915 (T. subterraneum) to 2495 kg of herbage dry matter yield (HDMY) ha-1 (V. villosa), 52.3 (T. pratense) to 148.4 kg of accumulated nitrogen (AN) ha-1 (T. incarnatum), and 14.5 (T. pratense) to 114.5 kg of symbiotically fixed nitrogen (Nsymb) ha-1 (T. incarnatum) up to the end of autumn. Until the spring ploughing-in, the legume cover crops in SD1 yielded 1065 (T. subterraneum) to 4440 kg HDMY ha-1 (T. incarnatum), 74.9 (T. subterraneum) to 193 kg AN ha-1 (V. villosa), and 4,7 (T. subterraneum) to 179 kg Nsymb ha-1 (V. villosa). The amounts of all measured parameters in SD2 were significantly lower than in SD1, whereas the SD3 sowing was not found appropriate for the legumes. The ecological benefits of legume winter cover crops related to symbiotic nitrogen fixation were achieved only by early sowing; however, the amount of soil mineral N in late autumn and in early spring was significantly lower under L. multiflorum than under the legumes.
