Abstract:Ruski pisatelj Fjodor Mihajlovič Dostojevski sodi med najkvalitetnejše in najbolj brane avtorje svetovne književnosti. V diplomskem delu podrobneje predstavljam Dnevnik pisatelja Fjodorja Mihajloviča Dostojevskega. Dnevnik pisatelja predstavljam zato, ker se v tem delu najlepše razkrivata avtorjev način razmišljanja in njegovi nazori, pogojeni z njegovimi življenjskimi izkušnjami.

Title:DICHOTOMIES IN THE JOURNAL OF FYODOR MIKHAILOVICH DOSTOEVSKY
Abstract:Russian writer Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky is one the most skilful and most read authors in world literature. The representative of psychological realism has become well-known through his novels, although he also wrote short prose. Dostoyevsky’s creativity was guided by his unsettled nature entangled with his life experiences. Dostoyevsky’s life was already restless in his childhood, later this unrest grew by his travels to Europe, frictions in literary circles, pursuit of happiness in love life and constant battles with the authorities, which at some point brought him to imprisonment in Siberia. This dissertation presents A Writer’s Diary of Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky in more detail. I have chosen A Writer’s Diary since it is a book, which effectively discloses author’s way of thinking and his beliefs affected by his life experiences. Dostoyevsky’s thinking is based on dichotomies with the stress ion relations between the intelligence and people, Russia and Europe, Catholicism and socialism, immortality and atheism, Russian messianism and deity. Author’s thoughts change a lot along with his life’s findings and experiences. A Writer’s Diary was created in the latter years of his writing and is the work in which the author rejects his beliefs from his youth and becomes, due to his experience in Siberia, an avid supporter of new ideas and beliefs, based mostly on religion, that is Orthodoxy. In his thinking, the author is very partial on certain relations; basically he chooses one of his given options and rarely allows others. A Writer’s Diary by Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky is the best example of the change the author makes from a revolutionary to becoming an extreme conservative. The thesis also includes a chapter in which three novellas from A Writer’s Diary are presented in detail. Novellas prove Dostoyevsky’s ability of providing aesthetically perfect short prose, using the Menippean satire intentionally - to express his beliefs clearly.
