Title:ATMOSPHERE AND LIGHT: TURNER'S PRINCIPLE OF CONSTRUCTING A PAINTING
Abstract:The graduation thesis entitled ATMOSPHERE AND LIGHT: TURNER’S PRINCIPLE OF CONSTRUCTING A PAINTING consists of a theoretical and practical part. The theoretical part addresses the life of the artist Joseph Mallord William Turner, his painting technique and typical features. I focused on his method of constructing a painting and chose pieces, which represent the pinnacle of his career in the 1840s, as a source of inspiration. Artists, whose work he encountered during his travels and which inspired his creativity, are also depicted. I described the evolution of landscape painting, mentioned the period’s movements and analyzed seven of his artworks, which served me as a model. The practical part discusses my work process. With the application of the artist’s technique I tried to realize my own interpretation of a similar motif from selected artworks and explained them. I looked for my personal artist’s tale.
Keywords:Joseph Mallord William Turner, painting, Romanticism, light, atmosphere.
