Z raziskavo smo želeli ugotoviti, kako negovalni kader posebnih socialnovarstvenih zavodov zagotavlja pomoč stanovalcem v izvajanju individualnih potreb s poudarkom na zadovoljevanju fizičnih, psiholoških in socialnih potreb.

Title:AIDING THE ELDERLY WITH THEIR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS BY THE NURSING STAFF IN A SPECIAL SOCIAL CARE INSTITUTE
Abstract:The process of ageing, a fundamental societal process that is global and counted amongst the most important characteristics of human civilization at the beginning of the second millennium, is dealt with in the specialist section of the work. The elderly are considered in the theoretical sociological and health context in relation to the environment, when due to the need for and the dependency on health care, their new living space becomes the special social care institute. With this research we wanted to understand how the nursing staff in special social care institutes aid the residents in fulfilling their individual needs with the emphasis on satisfying their physical, psychological and social needs. We were aiming to determine their self-assessed rating on adequacy of their professional competencies for aiding the residents and the elderly with their individual needs. The research was based on a descriptive method with the use of an anonymous questionnaire. The questionnaire was completed by 221 employees, who work in a care team in 5 different special social care institutes. The results showed that the respondents have various professional competencies for fulfilling the individual needs of the residents depending on activities performed, and that staff in a care team cannot always ensure that the individual needs of residents are fulfilled. The respondents attribute great importance to appropriate and adequate professional competencies for providing health care.
