Title:DEVELOPMENT OF STRENGTH IN ENDURANCE BASED SPORTS IN PREPARATION PERIOD
Abstract:The goal of this research work was to survey the expert literature and other sources that talk about the ajppropriateness of concurrent strength and endurance training and thus determine whether such training protocols are suitable for improvements in endurance disciplines such as running, cycling, triathlon, ski running… The surveyed literature was limited to the sources which talked about the training protocols of experienced athletes or recreational athletes. Sources that were primarily focused on the beginners, inexperienced athletes or injured athletes were not used as sources for this research. After thorough survey we came to the conclusion that there are different opinions concerning the concurrent strength and endurance training, but that referred more to the individual variables discussed by different research science articles which talked about the economy of motion, performance results in different endurance sports, muscle hypertrophy, change in muscle type of muscle rather than VO2max. After thorough study the conclusion was made that there are different opinions when it comes to the concurrent strength and endurance training protocols However, from the stand point of a very important variable in endurance sports – economy of motion – concurrent practice of strength and endurance (S+E) justified our expectations. Concurrent practice (S+E) helps to improve certain parameters which are important in endurance disciplines and it shows that only endurance practice (improvement of only cardiovascular parameters) does not give satisfactory results. That is particularly noticeable when it comes to the elite athletes whose cardiovascular parameters are already trained to the ultimate capacity.
Keywords:strength, maximum strength, explosive strength, endurance, VO2max, muscle, economy of motion
