Abstract:Nočno delo je eden izmed načinov organiziranja nočnega delovnega časa, ki ga delodajalci koristijo predvsem zaradi ekonomskih in tehnoloških razlogov. Zaradi sprememb biološkega ritma so pri nočnih delavcih pogoste srčno-žilne težave, želodčne in črevesne bolezni, utrujenost, slabo počutje, prebavne motnje ipd.

Title:EFFECTS OF NIGHT WORK ON PRODUCTIVITY OF EMPLOYEES IN MANUFACTURING PLANT
Abstract:Night work is a way of organizing work time at night, which is used by employers especially for economic and technologic purposes. Along with positive effects particularly from the point of view of employers, this type of work also brings negative consequences as it has a bad effect on the health of employees. Due to changes in the biological rhythm night workers often experience cardiovascular problems, gastric disorders and intestinal diseases, fatigue, they feel unwell and have digestive problems, etc. Performing work at that time of the day also presents a higher risk for injuries at the workplace. Due to all the above listed negative factors the legislative provisions in this field protect workers who perform night work, especially younger employees, women, and elderly workers. Qualitative and quantitative methods were applied in this diploma paper to establish to which effect (if at all) night work affects the productivity of employees. The qualitative approach includes the analysis of literature in this research area and use of secondary resources (for example: Eurostat data). The quantitative method of research applies to the analysis of a questionnaire filled in by 30 employees, who perform night work within shift work. The conclusions of the analysis show that night work does not directly affect the productivity of workers. It did however show that employees have the hardest time in reaching the norm in this shift as they have the highest number of work-related problems (for example: they make the most mistakes this time of day, have trouble concentrating, etc.). Employees stated that the main obstacle in night work lies in lack of sleep, but the main advantage is higher payment. On average respondents evaluated their health as fairly good, whereby a good third of them reported they suffer from fatigue, and employees also feel unwell, encounter insomnia and gastric problems, but to a lesser extent.
