Abstract:Lavoslav Gregorec je bil politik, duhovnik, publicist in predavatelj. Rupertu in Radljah. Razmišljal o ustanovitvi »slovanske samoupravne enote« znotraj Avstrije.

Title:POLITICAL ACTIVITIES OF LAVOSLAV GREGOREC
Abstract:Lavoslav Gregorec was a politician, priest, journalist and a lecturer. He was one of the key figures of the Styrian politics during 1875 and 1901. In 1860, Gregorec became a student of theology in Maribor and he successfully graduated in 1864. Between 1864 and 1868 he was a chaplain in Zreče pri Konjicah, St. Rupert and in Radlje. He continued studying theology at Graz where he received his PhD in 1868. In 1875, he became an editor of Slovenski gospodar and under his editing the newspaper became very successful. During the fight against the German Schulverein and efforts to improve the situation of Slovenes in Styria, he founded the Slovenian political society in Maribor in 1882. Despite Emperor's pardon he was sentenced to forty-two days in prison. In 1885, he was transferred to Nova Cerkev near Celje. In Styrian politics his relocation announced a period of transferring the political centre of Styrian Slovenes from Maribor to Celje. After Božidar Račič's death, in 1886, Gregorec ran for parliamentary elections and was also elected. In the context of political cooperation he became a member of Hohenwart's club, but he had critical views on Taaffe's government, dualism and he was even thinking of establishing »Slavic self-government units« within Austria. After the collapse of Taaffe's government, he step out from Hohenwart's club and he participated in the foundation of Slovene-Croatian club. In 1901, he decided to withdraw from the politics due to the lack of cooperation in Styrian politics.
