Abstract:V podjetjih kovinsko predelovalne industrije potekajo procesi površinske zaščite kovin, ki obremenjujejo okolje z emisijami hlapnih organskih spojin (HOS).

Title:Multicriteria decision-making in optimization of retrofitted plant for metal surface protection
Abstract:In the metal processing industry, the processes of metal surface protection produce the emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOC) which represent serious environmental burdens. An approach is presented in this Master thesis for multicriteria decision-making in retrofitting the coating processes by taking into account various aspects of BAT techniques, i.e. the technological, ecological, economic, quality, and social aspects. Within the reconstruction process, the company under study has replaced a solvent-based degreasing process by an iron-phosphating process. A new degreasing chamber was built, while the existing one was rebuilt to convective drying chamber. The existing energy source (heating oil) was replaced by natural gas, and the additional pipelines were installed. A Mixed-Integer Linear Programming optimization model was developed for the retrofitted process in order to optimize the consumption of raw materials, VOC emissions, and the total cost, subject to the constraint that the legally prescribed target VOC emission must not be exceeded. The total cost of optimized retrofitted process is 28 % lower than before the reconstruction. VOC emission is considerably lower than the target one. Net present value is positive, while the payback time amounts to 1,4 years. The quality of final products is improved due to the substantially increased corrosion stability.
