Title:Elderly people with difficulties in movement
Abstract:It is typical to say that in the 21st century we live in an age where the number of elderlies is growing. A longer life span also means an increase of illnesses, injuries and problems that are illustrated in everyday activities. Elderlies are thus becoming partially or fully dependant on outside help and this is why so many of them live in nursing homes. In this thesis we wanted to present the problems of elderlies with difficulties in movement. We were trying to establish whether health care workers in nursing homes devote enough time to create awareness of the importance of regular physical activity among elderlies. We were also trying to establish whether elderlies with difficulties in movement are aware of the meaning of regular physical activity to maintain their psychophysical abilities. We looked for possible solutions to help elderlies with difficulties in movement to become more aware of their illnesses and the obstacles that are tied to them. The research was based on quantitative methodology. This thesis presents the results of a survey conducted in September 2012 among 31 health care workers of the Nursing home Idila d.o.o. We gained information using an anonymous questionnaire that included 17 open- and close- type questions. The results have shown that health care workers devote enough time to create awareness about the importance of regular physical activity among elderlies that have difficulties in movement. We have also found that elderlies with difficulties in movement are aware of the importance of regular physical activity to maintain their psychophysical abilities, but they usually only participate in such activities when they are done in groups. We can deduct from the research that elderlies are not informed enough about their illnesses and restrictions on movement, but they are well-informed with the use of assistive devices to facilitate movement.
