Abstract:	Diplomsko delo opredeljuje področje geografskega profiliranja − to je mlada preiskovalna metoda, ki je postala prepoznavna šele v zadnjih letih. Glavni krivec za to so mediji. Na splošno je ta vrsta profiliranja uporaba geografskih značilnosti kaznivega dejanja za določanje lokacije storilčevega doma ter vpogled v njegovo mentalno sliko. Uporablja se na dva načina; z uporabo računalniških programov, ki omogočajo analizo geografskih podatkov, ali tako da sam geografski profiler sestavi profil brez pomoči računalnika. Torej geografsko profiliranje igra pomembno vlogo v procesu iskanja storilca kaznivega dejanja, kajti s pomočjo njega lahko močno zmanjšamo obseg iskanja in stroške, ki so potrebni pri iskanju storilca serijskih kaznivih dejanj. Za razumevanje te preiskovalne metode je potrebno razumeti, iz kje izhaja in iz česa se je razvila. V delu je predstavljen njen formalen in neformalen razvoj in pomembni posamezniki, ki so pripomogli k razvoju. Zaradi lažjega razumevanja so predstavljene nekatere definicije te metode. Posamezniki, ki se ukvarjajo z geografskim profiliranjem so najpogosteje analitiki, ki s pomočjo različnih informacij poskušajo razumeti prostorske dejavnike kriminala. Točnost profilov v večini primerov temelji na teh analitikih, kakšne metode uporabljajo in kako natančni so podatki s katerimi razpolagajo. Moramo pa se zavedati, da ti profili ne določajo točnih lokacij in lahko zgrešijo lokacijo storilčevega doma. Zelo pomembno je, da se zavedamo, da veliko strokovnjakov te metode še ni potrdilo kot uporabne, oziroma so še v dvomih, če je res učinkovita ali ne. Medtem, ko drugi potrjujejo njeno uporabnost in to dokazujejo tudi z raziskavami.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses on defining geographical profiling. Geographical profiling is a relatively young investigative technique that has gained more recognition in the last few years. The main reason for this is the fact, that it has gained more media recognition. Overall this type of profiling uses special aspects of a crime to estimate the base of an offender, and to create a mental image of the offender. It is used in two ways, first one uses computer programs, to analyze geographical data of a crime, and creates a geographical profile based on that data, and the second method is when a profiler creates a profile, without the use of a computer program. It plays an important role, in the process of finding and offender. With its help we can drastically limit the search areas and the costs of searching. To understand this technique, it is important to understand where it comes from and what it has developed from. In my thesis I present its formal and informal development, and also individuals that helped with it. For easy understanding I have also presented some definitions of it. Individuals that have contact with geographical profiles are mostly analysts that try to understand the special aspects of a crime. The accuracy of this profiles is mostly based on the analysts methods and how accuracy of the date that they use. We have to understand, that the profiles do not give us exact locations of the offenders home, and that they can be wrong.
