Abstract:
Diplomsko delo opisuje razvoj operacijskega sistema Linux skozi zgodovino in obravnava najpogostejše distribucije tega operacijskega sistema. Glavna naloga diplomskega dela je podrobna analiza in primerjava med posameznimi distribucijami, tako s tehničnega oziroma strokovnega vidika, kot z vidika končnega uporabnika. Obravnava tudi posamezne tipe namizij oziroma grafičnih vmesnikov Linux okolja in nabor privzetih aplikacij v posameznih distribucijah. Cilj je bralcu predstaviti okolje operacijskega sistema Linux in mu s podanimi informacijami pomagati pri izbiri zanj najprimernejše distribucije.

ANALYSIS AND COMPARISON OF MAIN DISTRIBUTIONS OPERATING SYSTEM LINUX
Abstract:
The thesis describes the development of the computer operating system Linux throughout history and its the most frequently used distributions. The main task is to make the detailed analysis of each distribution and the comparison between them from tehnical point of view and also from end-user perspective. The thesis sumarizes characteristics of all the desktop environments or graphic user interfaces (GUI) of Linux environment and all of the default applications in separate distributions. Main goal of the thesis is to familiarize the reader with Linux environments and with detailed information which would help him to choose suitable distribution for her/his needs.
