Abstract:V diplomskem delu smo predstavili poškodbe glave pri otroku. Opisali smo anatomijo in fiziologijo možganov pri otroku.

Title:Head injuries in children
Abstract:In the diploma paper we present head injuries in children. We describe the anatomy and physiology of the brain in children. We present the types of head injuries in children, causes of head injuries in children, how to treat children with head injuries, and describe the medical care of children after head injuries. The aim of our research was to determine which head injuries occur most often in children, what the response of parents is when head injuries in children occur, and whether parents are aware of the consequences that may occur when a child hurts his or her head. Methodology of the research. The diploma paper uses the descriptive method. Theoretical starting points were defined with the help of the Slovene and foreign literature. The data for the empirical part were obtained with the use of a questionnaire. The survey was conducted among 40 randomly selected parents of children. Results. We have determined that mild head injuries are the most frequent in children. The most common type of head injury in a child is a contusion with swelling and suffusion. 55% of parents believe that they know how to act in case of a head injury in a child. Also, all parents are aware of the consequences that may occur after a head injury. Conclusion. Most head injuries in pre-school and school children happen at home while they are playing. Since fear is one of the most common reactions of parents after a head injury, any injury to the head or other injury is very stressful for parents. Serious and irreparable consequences of a child’s head injury can largely change the attitudes and the way of life in the family. The role of nurses in head injuries is to prevent, counsel and educate. They inform parents about head trauma during regular checkups by dividing brochures and by individual talks. Nurses should be actively involved in prevention programs which are aimed at educating and advising, and transfer their knowledge and experience to others. Parents have to ensure that their child plays safely at home or elsewhere.
