Title:AN ANALISYS OF THE VARIABLES OF ARTIFICIAL VENTILATION WITH THREE-SEGMENT SELF-INFLATING MANUAL RESUSCITATOR
Abstract:Manual resuscitators are most commonly used during the resuscitation and during transportation of the patient. Breathing volumes, that are achieved by them, depend on their mechanical characteristics. We explored the differences between the different respiratory balloons. We have included 20 paramedics in the study who used a special three-segment breathing balloon, a classic handheld respiratory balloon and an IngMarMedical, a lung simulator. We took notes of the variables of artificial ventilation. We explored how the balloon works in function of spontaneous breathing in hyperventilation syndrome. The average single volumes that were achieved with the largest segment, amouted to 708±52 ml, the middle segment amouted to 500±47 ml and the smallest segment to 286±24 ml. Volumes statistically vary, depending on the volumes that were achieved through the standard format balloons (p<0,001). We also recorded a difference between the large segment and a classic balloon for adults (p=0,048). After ten-minute use of rerespiratory chamber in hyperventilation syndrome, we recorded 35 mmHg PetCO2 in exhaled air of the initial 13 mmHg PetCO2. A 300 ml small segment can replace a 550 ml classic respiratory balloon and a 500 ml middle segment can replace a 1000 ml classic respiratory balloon. We need to be aware of the fact that manual respiratory balloons do not supply precise amounts of one-off volumes.
