Title:SOURCES OF SHORT-TERM AND LONG-TERM FUNDING OF SLOVENIAN BANKS BEFORE AND AFTER THE GLOBAL FINANCIAL CRISIS
Abstract:The banks aimed at carrying out their primary lending activities should borrow in order to gain sources of short-term and long-term funding through their clients and through foreign and domestic banks by means of deposits, loans, their own capital, issued securities and through the central bank. Before the crisis, Slovenian banks acquired sources of funding primarily from the banking sector and also through foreign sources, but today they are primarily guided by the source of funding from their own deposits, i. e. to short-term funding sources. Since the beginning of the crisis Slovenian banks have managed to reduce their exposure towards foreign and domestic banks and have relied on the funding received through deposits from non-banks customers and the Eurosystem.
