Abstract:	Diplomsko delo se navezuje na tradicionalne pustne like iz območja Ptuja in Ormoža. Tradicionalni pustni liki na tem območju so kurent, hudič, rusa, pustni orači, ploharji, medved, vile, kopjaši in pokači. V diplomskem delu ugotavljamo, ali danes obstajajo starostne in spolne omejitve pri tradicionalnih maskah. V diplomskem delu nato ugotavljamo, ali je nastanek karnevalov vplival na spremembe tradicionalnih pustnih norm in vrednot, ki so bile značilne za tradicionalno pustno maskiranje. Norme v tem primeru razumemo kot točno določena navodila za ravnanje, medtem ko vrednote razumemo kot prepričanje o tem, kaj je dobro in zaželeno. Kot tretje v diplomski nalogi ugotavljamo, ali se danes nosilci tradicionalnega pustnega šemljenja vedejo odklonsko, ko kršijo tradicionalne zapovedi. Kot odklonsko ravnanje, smatramo tisto ravnanje, ki je relativno in je kulturno pogojeno, spreminja pa se od časa do časa. Kot zadnje pa ugotavljamo, ali sta imeli komercializacija in globalizacija vpliv na tradicionalno pustno šemljenje in kakšen je bil ta vpliv. Tradicionalne šege in navade preučujemo z analizo virov, medtem ko sodoben pogled predstavimo a počjo intervjujev izvedenih s strani predstavnikov etnografskih društev. Ugotovitve do katerih nas pripelje raziskava so, da danes ne obstajajo starostne in spolne omejitve pri tradicionalnih pustnih šemah. Kot drugo ugotavljamo, da je nastanek karnevalov vplival na spremembe tradicionalnih pustnih norm in vrednot. Nato ugotovimo tudi, da se nosilci tradicionalnega pustnega šemljenja ne vedejo odklonsko, ko ne upoštevajo tradicionalnih pustnih norm in vrednot. Ugotovimo pa da sta komercializacija in globalizacija vplivali na norme in vrednote tradicionalnega šemljenja.

Title:	CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL OVERVIEW OF TRADITIONALCARNIVAL MASKS WITH MANNERS AND CUSTOMS IN THE AREA OF PTUJ AND ORMOŽ
Abstract:	The diploma thesis is related to the traditional carnival characters from the Shrove Tuesday celebration in the area of Ptuj and Ormož. The traditional characters in this area are kurenti, hudič (the devil), rus (the Russian), pustni orači (the carnival ploughmen), ploharji, medved (the bear), vile (fairies), kopjaši and pokači. In our thesis we, first, tried to determine if there are, nowadays, any age and/or gender restrictions in the use of traditional costumes. Secondly, we tried to determine if the traditional norms and values which were typical for the traditional masquerading on that day, changed. The norms, in this case, are understood as the precise standards for behavior, while the values are understood as the belief about what is good and desired. Thirdly, we tried to determine if the individuals who practice the traditional Shrove Tuesday masquerading display any deviant behavior when they violate or stray away from the traditional modes of behavior. Here we are defining deviant behavior as actions that are relative to and conditioned by culture, and that vary with the passage of time. Finally, we observed the impacts that commercialization and globalization have on traditional Shrove Tuesday masquerading. For our research, the traditional manners and customs were studied by analyzing various sources, and the modern viewpoints were obtained through interviews carried out by members of ethnography societies. The findings of our survey show that today there are no age and/or gender restrictions on traditional Shrove Tuesday masquerading. Secondly, we found that the adoption of the modern carnival/mardi gras celebration has an effect on changes to the norms and values of traditional Shrove Tuesday celebrations. Thirdly, we also found that the cultures that still practice traditional Shrove Tuesday masquerading do not display deviant behavior when they stray from the traditional norms and values of that celebration. However, we did find that commercialization and globalization both have an effect on the norms and rove Tuesday masquerading.
