Abstract:Teoretična izhodišča: Predstavljeni so vodilni klinični znaki, zdravljenje in preprečevanje akutne črevesne okužbe pri otroku. Kvantitativne podatke smo statistično obdelali in s pomočjo računalniškega programa Microsoft Excel rezultate grafično ponazorili.

Title:Management of acute intestinal infections in children
Abstract:Theoretical basis: The diploma thesis presents the leading clinical symptoms, treatment, and prevention of acute intestinal infection at a child. We have focused on the most frequent intestinal infections agents and we have described health care of a child with acute intestinal infection with the role of a nurse for a child with the acute intestinal infection in hospital. We have presented the importance of preventive role of a nurse with raising awareness of parents about prevention of intestinal infection appearance and appropriate measures when it appears. Methodology of research: We have used the descriptive method of research where we have used Slovene and foreign expert literature for our work. The research has based on quantitative methodology. We have used a questionnaire as a research instrument, which has included 17 closed and opened questions. We have statistically processed and graphically presented the data with the help of the software programme Microsoft Excel. Results: We discovered that most of the parents recognize the leading clinical symptoms and take appropriate measures when they appear. A significant half of the parents think that they are, according to their belief, informed enough about the prevention of the intestinal infection. Conclusion: With the treatment of acute intestinal infection, the most important is to take into account all the measures that prevent dehydrationas soon as possible. Rehydration is of key importance and it has to start as soon as possible. We do not stop the usual feeding and the breast-feeding mothers continue with breast-feeding. When preventing the intestinal infection we have to consistently consider and execute the hygiene of hands and other preventive measures. Besides the health care, a nurse also has the educative role to teach the parents of the child patient how to take appropriate steps when the infection appears and how to prevent the infection in the first place.
