Abstract:V magistrski nalogi je predstavljena problematika preprečevanja kriminalitete nad starejšimi. V uvodnem delu smo opredelili nekatere temeljne pojme.

Abstract:The thesis presents an issue of prevention of crime against the elderly. In the introduction, we define some basic concepts. The concept of age is difficult to define, because the elderly are usually defined by current society. Mainly, people are considered to be old when they reach the age of over 65, or, the limit is determined by their retirement. For better understanding of crime against the elderly, it is necessary to know their characteristics. The potential to become an elderly victim of crime is particularly large because of the physical and mental changes of aging. The main part of the thesis focuses on different types of crime against the elderly. Older people may be victims by family members, friends or carers in different institutions for the elderly, as well as of various crimes committed by foreigners. The paper describes also the prevalence of crime against older people in Slovenia and some other European countries and the measures to be taken to prevent that. In Slovenia, for the purposes of prevention of crime against the elderly, the Police has prepared a project "Do not forget about safety”, under which the officers visit homes for the elderly and individuals and advise them about the safety and self-protective measures. In conjunction with the preventive measures we try to discuss the issue in other European countries as we were interested in how these issues are faced abroad. The last part of the thesis presents the research among older people in Slovenia which helped to determine the knowledge of self-protection measures and possible differences among the age groups in self-protective behavior. The survey showed that younger and older age groups behave very self-protectively, but the differences among the groups in self-protective behavior are small. Most of the differences were shown by the behavior of self-protective behaviors at home and conducting the visit of strangers. Based on the results, suggestions and recommendations for the successful prevention of crime against the elderly and improvement the current situation have been made.
