Title:Ecological footprint of different corn production methods on the estate of Perutnina Ptuj d. d.
Abstract:Ecological or environmental footprint is a tool for evaluating a biologically productive area, which is necessary for the production of food, raw materials and energy, necessary for the population of an area. The area that we gain with the help of calculations is called biocapacity and is the comparable available area for a certain production, population or an individual. We calculated the carbon footprint with the help of data, collected in an experiment in an estate in the community Rače-Fram in Gorica with the help of the tool SPIonExcel for three different production systems: conventional tillage with a plough, conservation tillage method with a cultivator and direct seeding. In our experiment we calculated the lowest carbon footprint (27.7 ha) for soil preparation with conservation tillage treatment, which is influenced by the lack of ploughing and the lower use of herbicides. Although more fuel is used in the conventional land treatment in comparison with direct seeding, the carbon footprint is lower in the conventional treatment with 28.3 ha. The carbon footprint is highest in direct seeding with 39 ha, which is the result of the use of 5l herbicide before seeding.
Keywords:Ecological footprint, cultivator, conventional tillage, conservation tillage treatment, direct seeding
