Title:PRIMERJALNA ANALIZA PRIPOVEDNIH POSTOPKOV V IZBRANIH ROMANIH J. JOYCEA (ULIKSES) IN L. KOVAČIČA (PRIŠLEKI)

Abstract:Povzetek Namen raziskave je bil potrditi tezo, da sta James Joyce in Lojze Kovačič uporabljala podobne, to je modernistične pripovedne tehnike. Ker je bila za potrditev te teze potrebna natančna in podrobna analiza besedil, se je raziskava osredinila samo na njuna najbolj reprezentativna romana, Ulikses in Prišleki. Raziskava je skušala združiti Leechov in Shortov lingvistični model analize stila za prikazovanje mišljenja in govora v literaturi, pripovedne kategorije za prikazovanje govora in misli Elene Semino ter različne pripovedne načine, vezane na prvoosebni in tretjeosebni kontekst, za prikazovanje zavesti v fikciji, kot jih je opredelila Dorrit Cohn. Hkrati smo ob omenjenih vzporejanjih posameznim kategorijam dodali še tipologijo L. Brinton, ki govori o jezikovni upodobitvi zaznave. Ob prenosu tovrstnega modela na konkretne segmente izbranih proznih del je sledila narativna analiza in primerjava modernističnih pripovednih postopkov, ki jih v Uliksesu uporablja J. Joyce in v Prišlekih L. Kovačič, pri čemer smo ugotavljali njune razlike oz. stične točke. Ob primerjavi in analizi razlik in stičnih točk narativne strukture smo z vidika analize stila literarnega jezika književnih likov upoštevali tudi teoretske koncepte (Short in Leech, Fludernik) lingvističnega prikazovanja govora in mišljenja književnih oseb v fikciji, pri čemer smo izbrane koncepte aplicirali na posamezne segmente proznega besedila in opazovali njihov učinek v tekstu ter na kakšen način pisca s pomočjo literarnega jezika karakterizirata svoje književne like. Iz analize obeh romanov sledi, da prevladujejo pripovedne tehnike, vezane na prvoosebni pripovedni kontekst, najpogosteje se pojavljajo samocitirani in citirani monolog ter bolj tradicionalne pripovedne tehnike, kot sta pripoved o zavesti lika in pripoved o lastni zavesti lika. Ob teh se pojavljata še notranja pripoved in poročilo o zaznavi. Omenjene pripovedne kategorije in načini Joyceu in Kovačiču služijo za prikazovanje individualiziranega doživljanja in čustvovanja njunih literarnih likov in pri tem poustvarjajo mentalne procese toka misli v literarnem jeziku. Le-ta avtorjema služi kot prepričljivo sredstvo, s katerim karakterizirata svoje književne osebe: osamljenega, abstraktno razmišljujočega intelektualca Stephena, povprečna in vsakdanja zakonca Leopolda in Molly Bloom ter čustveno občutljivega, radoživega in umetniško nadarjenega dečka Bubija, ki odrašča v moža. Poleg specifičnih idiomov književnih oseb, ki odsevajo njihovo notranjo podobo, avtorja z različnimi slogovnimi prijemi ustvarjata pristni poskus realistične in verjetne iluzije, da je bralcu dovoljen vpogled v privatni diskurz literarnih likov.

Title:A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF NARRATIVE TECHNIQUES IN SELECTED NOVELS BY J. JOYCE (ULYSSES) AND L. KOVAČIČ (PRIŠLEKI)
Abstract:Abstract The purpose of the research was to prove the hypothesis that James Joyce and Lojze Kovačič used similar modernistic narrative techniques. The research was concentrated on their most representative novels, Ulysses and Prišleki. To confirm the hypothesis the precise and thorough analysis was done. The research tried to combine Leech and Short's style analysis linguistic model to present the thinking process and speech in literature and Elen Semino’s narrative categories to present speech and thoughts as well as different narrative modes connected to the first-person and third-person text to present consciousness in fiction as defined by Dorrit Cohn. What is more, L. Brinton's typology about linguistic representation of perception was also used in the research. After transferring the model to the definite segments of the chosen novels we applied narrative analysis and compared modernistic narrative techniques used by James Joyce in Ulysses and by Lojze Kovačič in Prišleki. By doing so we tried to establish the similarities and the differences between the chosen novels. While comparing and analysing the narrative structure similarities and differences we also considered the theoretical concepts of linguistic presentation of speech and thought in fiction (Short, Leech, Fludernik) from the point of view of the style analysis of the fictional characters' literary language. We not only applied the chosen theoretical concepts to the individual segments of prose and observed their influence in the text but also observed their influence in the text and how the authors by using literary language characterize their fictional characters. After analysing both novels we could conclude that narrative techniques connected to the first-person text prevail. The authors mostly used self-quoted monologue and quoted monologue as well as more traditional narrative techniques such as psycho-narration and self-narration. In addition, internal narration and report about perception were also used by the authors. Joyce and Kovačič used the above mentioned narrative techniques to show their fictional characters’ individualised experience and emotions, whereby the mental processes of the stream of thought in literary language were reproduced. The authors used the stream of thought to characterise their fictional characters; Stephen, the lonely and abstractly thinking intellectual, Leopold and Molly Bloom, a married couple, average and ordinary, and Bubi emotionally sensitive, joyous and artistically talented boy, who is to become a man. Besides specific idioms of fictional characters used to reflect their inner selves, the authors created a genuine attempt of realistic and believable illusion by using various style approaches to give the reader an insight into the private discourse of the fictional characters.
