Title:THE IMPACT OF NOISE EXPOSURE ON THE HEALTH OF WORKERS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF BEVERAGES
Abstract:Introduction: Besides presenting a great risk factor for hearing impairment, noise also significantly affects the quality of human lives, so it is important that we pay this topic enough attention both in the environment, as well as in the workplace. The consequences of noise over-exposure can be shown in any range of hearing damage, from a mild hearing impairment to a complete deafness or hearing loss. This it is very important to know the sources of noise, its effects on human health and the available preventive measures to protect our hearing. The purpose of the research was to compare measurements of noise in the years 2010 and 2013, and to determine to what extent the impact of noise influenced the health and well-being of workers. Methodology: We used a quantitative research method by means of a questionnaire among workers in beverage production industry. The acquired data were processed by a computer program SPSS, which was used to determine statistically significant differences in the measurements of noise in the manufacture of beverages in 2010 and 2013. Results: The research showed that 10,3 % of workers employed in the manufacture of beverages always use hearing protective equipment in their work and 64,5 % of those workers use the protective equipment only occasionally. We found that in most cases earplugs were used as a type of personal protective equipment, and also that more than half of the employees believe that the company ensures good safety measures to protect their hearing at workplace. Another finding showed that the department of soft drinks in 2013 managed to reduce the presence of noise in the production at the arithmetic mean of the 8-hour workday. Conclusion: The task of the employer is to provide workers with appropriate hearing protective equipment, and the workers should bear in mind the importance of regular use of personal protective equipment in order to preserve the quality of their hearing.
