Title:The Influence of PRP Fertilizer on Apple Tree Root Expanse in the Soil on a Weak M9 Rootstock
Abstract:In 2010, 2011 and 2012 a fertilization experiment with the calcium fertilizer PRP, which is a soil activator, was conducted on the estate of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The experiment included 40 apple trees of the cultivars 'Golden Delicious', 'Pinova', 'Breaburn', 'Gala', 'Gala' Schniga and 'Jonagold'. The first treatment was just controlled (without additional fertilization with calcium) and the second treatment included a tree fertilization dosage of 400 kg/ha with the PRP soil activator in early spring, which was carried out all three years of the experiment. Two pedological pits were dug out, one next to the control trees and another next to the trees fertilized with PRP. Meshes, consisting of a square wooden 100 cm x 100 cm frame into which a mesh with 10 cm x 10 cm grid holes was tightened, were put into the pedological pits. With the help of the mesh, roots of different thicknesses (0 to 6 mm and more) were counted and their arrangement in different soil depths determined (0 to 100 cm). Results have shown that the fertilization with the PRP calcium fertilizer has statistically increased the total amount of roots with the cultivars Pinova, Jonagold and Gala, but showed no remarkable influence on the other cultivars. The use of PRP fertilizer increased the number of thicker roots with the cultivars 'Braeburn', 'Pinova' and 'Jonagold', whereas an influence of PRP on deeper root expansion was not confirmed.
