Title:FOSTER CARE IN THE GORIŠKA REGION
Abstract:Foster care is a form of social parenthood where a child is removed from the biological family and is placed in a foster family. The rights and obligations that are compatible with the purpose of foster care, are in most cases kept by the biological parents in relation to the foster child. One of the most important rights that preserve, is the right of parents to have contact with a child, while one of the most important responsibilities of parents is to support the child. Foster care starts with the written order of the Center for Social Work on placing the child in foster care, while a specific foster relationship starts with the foster care contract. The Center for Social Work has an important role in the fostering institute. It supervises the work of foster parent, it monitors the child`s development in foster care and at the same time it strives to eliminate the reasons for which a child has been placed in foster care. In the Goriška region, there are four centers for social work; in Nova Gorica, Ajdovščina, Tolmin and Idrija. With the help of a questionnaire, I included in the thesis a study on the implementation of foster care in the region. One of the most important finding of the study is that in all four centers for social work stay children in foster family for a long period, and not for a short period, as required by the Foster Care Act.
