Abstract:Učitelji učno uspešnost romskih učencev pogosto pripisujejo značilnostim njihovega socialnega okolja.

Title:TEACHERS ATTITUDES ABOUT BEHAVIOR AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF ROMA PUPILS IN PRIMARY SCHOOL
Abstract:Teachers of Roma pupils often attribute their success to the characteristics of their social environment. The relationship between teachers' attitudes and behavior of Roma pupils may assume the dynamics of self-fulfilling prophecy, so that the viewpoint of teachers is an important factor in educational success of Roma pupils. The purpose of the master thesis is to explore the attitudes of primary school teachers about the achievements and behavior of Roma pupils in primary school. I explored the attitudes of teachers related to various factors of achievements and behavior of Roma pupils according to the direct experience of teachers teaching Roma pupils, teachers' gender, seniority and level of teaching. The survey was conducted via an online questionnaire and includes 267 teachers from Maribor primary schools. The analysis revealed some significant differences in the attitudes of teachers according to the experience of teachers teaching Roma pupils (cultural characteristics of Roma families, the learner's social inclusion in the classroom, the qualifications of the teacher, the teacher's motivation and the prejudices and potential discrimination), seniority (co-operation between parents and teachers), gender (the socio-economic situation of Roma families, cultural characteristics of Roma families, the learner's motivation, the fact that Slovenian is not their mother tongue, Roma parents and their interest and co-operation between parents and teachers), and the level of teaching (the socio-economic situation of Roma families and the fact that Slovenian is not their mother tongue).
