Abstract:Performans je tesno povezan z razvojem avantgardnega gledališča.

Title:PERFORMER AND ENGAGED SPECTATOR
Abstract:Performance is closely connected to the development of avant-garde theatre. The emergence of modern theatre triggered the demand for an active audience, which was adopted also by performance art. Spectator has become an engaged co-creator of an artistic event. His seemingly equal position has obscured his ability of critical thinking, which has made him a victim of dexterously concealed manipulative tendencies expressed through three different approaches. By invading and tormenting their bodies, the artists create unbearable conditions for the spectators and demand their empathic reaction. By executing mental and physical violence, they trigger uncomfortable sensations and frustrations for spectators, which should in best-case scenario cause a violent reaction of the spectator. With an explicit presentation of their body, performers strive to trigger an erotic reaction or shame in spectators.
Keywords:engaged spectator, manipulation, masochistic art, mental and physical violence, erotized body
