Abstract:Glavni namen magistrske naloge je bil preučiti dejansko vlogo mladinskih centrov in razmisliti o nadgradnji le-teh z vključitvijo psiholoških vsebin.

Title:THE ENRICHMENT OF EXISTING CLASSIC YOUTH CENTRES BY INCLUDING PSYCHOLOGICAL PROGRAMMES
Abstract:The main aim of the master’s thesis was to research the actual role of youth centres and to consider their enrichment by incorporating psychological programmes. The topic of the master’s thesis was inspired by the alarming circumstances in the Slovene area which include relatively high level of youth unemployment. The aforementioned poses a risk factor for optimal youth development. At the same time, based on the comparison with some other countries, youth centres still present unexploited potential; namely, they employ relatively few people. The data were collected with the internet questionnaire. The youth could connect to the questionnaire via different websites (direct link, Facebook, www.klopotec.net, e-mail). Representatives of the youth centres were contacted via e-mail. The questionnaire was answered by 128 youth respondents and by 18 representatives of youth centres. The research shows that the majority of the youth respondents do not attend activities organized by the youth centres. However, approximately three quarters of the respondents state that they would consider consulting the psychologist in the youth centre if they were in the need of help. The majority of the youth respondents would not consider going to a youth centre, although it would be upgraded to the intergenerational centre. The youth evaluated the impressions about the priorities of programme and activities going on in youth centres (with a Likert scale). These evaluations were statistically significant and correlated with priorities defined for youth centres by the Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Youth. The majority of the youth centre representatives identify the needs for additional training especially in the field of psychology, sociology, pedagogy, and in managing a youth centre. The youth centres organise a wide and a diverse spectrum of activities which presents opportunities for the diverse youth. The obstacles which the youth centre representatives are facing should also be mentioned. These are mostly low incomes, problems connected with personnel and participants, weakness in promotion, bureaucracy, and not enough collaboration with schools. The majority of the youth centre representatives do not state a need for a psychologist as a special co-worker, however they understand the importance of a psychologist who could manage special tasks and roles in the youth centres.
