Title:The importance of prenatal care in pregnancy
Abstract:The following diploma thesis focuses on prenatal care. Prenatal testing plays a significant role in pregnancy - it ensures the detection of potential complications or fetal anomalies. A pregnant woman should be aware of the importance of certain examinations, as well as the rights she has as a pregnant woman, so that she can ensure optimal fetal growth and a pregnancy without complications. The aim of the thesis is to investigate to what extent pregnant women are informed about pregnancy examinations (and their importance), and if they recognize the symptoms of complications. The research was based on quantitative methodology. The data was gathered by a questionnaire consisting of 27 closed format questions. The research included 50 pregnant women. The results have shown that pregnant women are fairly well-informed about the importance of prenatal testing and examinations. Mostly they are familiar with necessary examinations. They are not well-enough informed about additional or about modern ways of examination. They are generally able to recognize the symptoms of complications and are aware of when it is necessary to see a gynecologist. Health workers should take time for each and every pregnant woman, whether she is prone to pregnancy complications or not. They are ought to provide pregnant women with information concerning the course of pregnancy and information regarding necessary examinations. Health workers should also encourage pregnant women to adopt a healthy lifestyle and warn them about the potential warning symptoms.
