Abstract:	Književno prevajanje je ustvarjanje prevoda literarnega dela ob upoštevanju avtorja, vsebine, literarnih likov, sloga, sporočila bralcem, družbenih in kulturnih okoliščin in še marsičesa. Prevajalec literature ni zgolj prevajalec, temveč združuje več funkcij: je bralec, prevajalec, ustvarjalec, kritik literarnega dela. Proces književnega prevajanja zahteva upoštevanje različnih elementov, eden izmed njih je tudi slog. Slog je v romanu The Picture of Dorian Gray avtorja Oscarja Wilda izrazitejša prvina, ki skupaj z bogatim jezikom roman uvršča med vrhunce angleške viktorijanske literature. Magistrska naloga se osredinja na analizo prilastkov v samostalniških besednih zvezah kot primerjava angleškega izvirnika in slovenskega prevoda prevajalke Rape Šuklje. Ne glede na sorodnost ali nesorodnost jezikov so v prevajanju književnosti prevodni premiki, spremembe in prilagajanja neogibni. Primerjalna analiza je pokazala, da so prilastki v izbranih primerih iz romana ustrezno in ekvivalentno prevedeni, prav tako so razumljivi in sprejemljivi vsi prevodni premiki, ki so pri prevodu nastali. Prilastki imajo funkcijo bogatenja sloga in besedila kot celote, kar je prevajalka v prevodu odlično ohranila.

Title:	TRANSLATING ATTRIBUTES IN NOMINAL PHRASES IN THE NOVEL THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY
Abstract:	Translating literature means creating a literary translation while taking into consideration an author, a content, characters, a style, a message, social in cultural circumstances as well as many other factors. A literary translator differs from a translator of other texts as he or she has many roles: a reader, a translator, a creator and a critic of a literary work. One of a crucial element of a literary translation process is also style. Style is a significant element in every literary work and so is also in Oscar Wilde’s novel The Picture of Dorian Gray where along with a rich language places the novel among the classical works of the English literature in the Victorian era. The thesis focuses on a comparative analysis of attributes in nominal phrases in the English original and in the Slovene translation by Rapa Šuklje. Whether the languages are similar or not, shifts, changes and other adaptations cannot be avoided in the translation process. The results of the analysis showed that the attributes in chosen examples are equivalently translated. In fact, all shifts in the translation are comprehensible and acceptable. Attributes usually have a function of embellishing the style and the narrative. In our opinion, the translator successfully kept this function in the translation.
