Title:SCHIZOPHRENIA IN HOME ENVIRONMENT
Abstract:One of the more severe mental disorders from the psychoses group is schizophrenia. However schizophrenia does not mean a split personality, as often it seems, although the name is derived from a term coined by words skhizein ("to split") and phrēn ("mind"). You could say that schizophrenia, in a way, means deviation from the reality. Schizophrenia does not only effect the individual but it effects the entire family, so that is why my thesis research is schizophrenia in the domestic environment. A major role in dealing with a patient with schizophrenia has the home care nurse. Home care nurses have to establish a empathic relationship with patients that have schizophrenia. They have to be sincere and consistent because patients with schizophrenia are more sensitive. The nurses have to trust in their abilities and believe in them, they have to be qualified, but above all they have to help with establishing a good relationship with the patient and his family. My thesis is composed of two parts, the theoretical part which covers the description of mental disorders- schizophrenia, what is the role of the family and the home care nurse when it comes to a patient with schizophrenia, health care of the patient with schizophrenia and health education. While in the empirical part, the research of a patient with schizophrenia and his relatives. The research showed, that the role of the home care nurse is very important. It also showed that it is crucial in the integration of the family and the patient into the environment.
