Title:OPTIMIZATION OF INDUSTRIAL MICRONIZATION PROCESS IN THE PRODUCTION OF TITANIUM DIO XIDE
Abstract:The purpose of this master thesis was to determine the optimal conditions for the operation of the Air Jet Milling operation within the process of TiO2 finalization by using experimental optimization. The impacts of outdoor temperature and humidity on the sieve residue within the micronization process were examined by using a statistical package Minitab. The impacts of the trimethyl propane (TMP) addition and jet mill heating through the ceramic heaters were examined by the Taguchi method. The links between the micronization and the sedimentation at the hydrolysis, particle size distribution and Loesche milling were studied through the statistical correlations. During the cold and wet weather, better (lower) sieve residues were obtained by using jet mills with installed ceramic heaters while adding 0,05 % of TMP. Lower sieving residues were also obtained at the higher temperature of the compressed air. The results show that upstream operations, like hydrolysis and Loesche milling affect the minimization of the sieve residue. Optimum conditions for achieving small sieve residues during the micronization process can be obtained at low sieve residue at Loesche milling, narrow particle size distribution and small sedimentation at the hydrolysis.
