Abstract:V magistrskem delu smo predstavili hormonske motilce in problematiko plastične embalaže od njenih oznak do porabe plastičnih mas. Gre za vprašanja o pogostosti uporabe vnaprej pripravljene hrane v plastični embalaži (p = 0,013), vprašanju poznavanja označb (p = 0,015), BPA (p = 0,044) in PC/PLA (p = 0,044), vprašanju živil v razsutem stanju (p = 0,013), vprašanju vpliva hormonskih motilcev na izločanje ščitničnega hormona (p = 0,000), vprašanju zmanjšanja nivoja testosterona oz. nivoja estrogena zaradi delovanja hormonskih motilcev (p = 0,000), vprašanju izbora rib (p = 0,000) ter vprašanju v zvezi z DDT-jem (p = 0,000).

Title:STUDY OF THE ATTITUDE OF STUDENTS TOWARDS PLASTIC AND THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT EXISTENCE OF ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS
Abstract:This master’s thesis deals with endocrine disruptors as well as with the area of plastic packaging, from labels to the usage of plastic materials. We analyzed the attitude of students towards plastics as well as the quality of their knowledge about the existence of endocrine disruptors by means of a questionnaire, which was filled out by the students of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences as well as students of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Maribor. The questionnaires were filled out in December 2014 by 100 students from each of the faculties. They helped us gain the information regarding the defined research topics. The software, used for the analysis of the questionnaires was SPSS for Microsoft Windows, version IBM 21.00. It was determined that the majority of students use plastic products from the moment of purchase to the consummation of foods. In most cases the results showed that the differences in answers were not statistically significant. It was determined that the students were not aware of the potential hazards of plastic packaging and are uninformed regarding its labels. The latter was further proven by analyzing the answers to the questions associated with potential hazards of endocrine disruptors. In contrast to the above, for seven questions, the students gave statistically significantly different answers. They were the questions regarding the frequency of use of food prepared in advance and stored in plastic packaging (p = 0.013), knowledge regarding labels (p = 0.015), BPA (p = 0.044) and PC/PLA (p = 0.044), the foods in bulk (p = 0.013), the effect of endocrine disruptors on the excretion of the thyroid hormones (p = 0.000), lower levels of testosterone or estrogen due to the effects of endocrine disruptors (p = 0.000), the choice of fish (p = 0.000), and DDT (p = 0.000). Based on the results, it could be concluded that students discover the environment through text books. For years, the students are attending various educational institutions and trying to understand, what their teachers are telling them, their knowledge is tested and graded, and yet they don’t know how to transfer this knowledge into reality.
