Abstract:Župnija Marijinega Vnebovzetja Gornja Lendava je pražupnija. Skozi zgodovino je poleg župnije imel pomembno vlogo gornjelendavski grad, kjer so gospodovale madžarske rodbine s svojimi posestmi na ozemlju Goričkega in Ravenskega. Tu stoji cerkev Marijinega Vnebovzetja, eden najlepših gotskih spomenikov v Pomurju z romansko zasnovo. Ti podatki nam razkrivajo demografsko sliko prebivalcev župnije. V tem obdobju so bile 404 poroke.

Title:THE POPULATION OF THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY PARISH IN GORNJA LENDAVA BETWEEN 1931 AND 1941 ACCORDING TO CHURCH RECORDS
Abstract:The Assumption of Mary Parish in Gornja Lendava is an arch parish. Apart from the parish, the Gornja Lendava Grad also held an important role throughout history as it was the residence of Hungarian families who owned lands in the areas of Goričko and Ravensko. Here stands the Assumption of Mary Church, one of the finest Gothic monuments with a Romanesque base in the Pomurje region. At the end of the 14th century, the parish comprised of 24 settlements that eventually became new parishes. In 1921, the parish comprised of 12 settlements, of which four villages seceded in 1939. The name of the Gornja Lendava settlement, and also of the parish, which today encompasses eight villages, was changed to Grad in 1952. Church records in the parish were started in 1738 and held information on births, weddings and deaths. This information provides insight into the demographic situation of the parish population. This thesis focuses on the analysis of births, weddings and deaths taken from parish church records between 1931 and 1941. The parish comprised of 12 villages: Gornja Lendava, Vidonci, Otovci, Kovačevci, Radovci, Kruplivnik, Motovilci, Vadarci, Kuzma, Matjaševci, Trdkova, and Dolič. The birth and christening register provided information on the number of births, the sex of infants, the number of illegitimate children, the still-born children and twins. This information also disclosed whether a midwife was present at birth, the names of newborn children and the christening procedure. The wedding register provided a basis for analyzing the number of weddings in a given month, the age of brides and grooms and their residence. The register of deaths was used to analyze the number of deceased persons, their age and the cause of their death. Between the years of 1931 and 1941, 1386 children were born in the Gornja Lendava parish, and 793 persons died. There were 404 weddings during this period of time. Church records provide us with an insight into not only the culture, beliefs and customs, but also the work of parish offices that recorded important information about the lives of people.
