Title:Walking through Maribor Island - virtual field trip for primary school students
Abstract:At the first glimpse it may seem that virtual worlds and field work are two completely different things, but in practice the combination of both may represent a solution to numerous problems. Without any additional material, financial and safety demands teachers are able to lead students on distant excursions, use hard or even unreachable measuring tools and without any additional threats for the environment explore endangered species. Students can work in an attractive learning environment that is adjusted to their knowledge and always available. In the paper the virtual field trip Maribor Island is presented that was developed for biology and natural science classes in primary school. It is designed for eight and ninth grade students, some exercises can even be used from sixth grade upwards. The virtual field trip represents an integral whole, but teachers can still incorporate only parts of it into their work. Exercises are also designed to be used in classical field work, where the virtual nature trail can be used as tool for preparation or repetition.
