Abstract:Diplomsko delo z naslovom Neznani del v strukturi del–del–celota teoretično, empirično in praktično predstavlja področje začetnih konceptov reševanja enačbe seštevanja.

Title:UNKNOWN PART IN THE PART- PART - WHOLE STRUCTURE
Abstract:The graduation thesis entitled “Unknown part in a part-part-whole structure” presents theoretically, empirically and practically the area of initial concepts of solving the summation equations. The purpose of the thesis is to research the knowledge and the abilities of preschool children at solving mathematical expressions of summation with one unknown. We know four summation structures. One of them is the Part-part-whole structure that is further divided into the Unknown part and Unknown whole. We were carrying out the activities of the Unknown part where a child is informed about the total number of objects (e.g. 8) on the desk. Some objects (e.g. 5) are visible to the child; some of them are hidden (in this case there are 3 shells hidden under a cup, a napkin…). The child predicts the number of hidden objects and checks his prediction on a concrete level. If his prediction is correct, then we will note that the equation (5 + X = 8) is correctly solved. The study of written sources was used in the theoretical part, and the causal experimental method of pedagogical research was used in the empiric part. There were 35 preschool children included in the research. The subjects of data processing were the children’s answers according to the number of correctly solved equations in the Whole part. The activity was completely unknown to some of the children and they could not solve it, but some of them achieved surprisingly high results. Half of the children achieved better results at the second testing than at the first one. The activity Unknown part in Part-part-whole structure proved to be interesting and not too demanding for the preschool children.
