Abstract:Zaradi naglega razvoja informacijske tehnologije in njene dostopnosti, nas v življenju obdajajo digitalni podatki in informacije. Usb key) in mobilnih telefonov.

Title:Secure deletion of digital data
Abstract:Due to quick progress in information technology and its accessibility we are surrounded with digital data and information. On a daily level users produce mass amounts of data, that are stored on personal computers, laptops, mobile devices etc. With analysis of all this data we can make a detailed profile of the user. So it is really important, that when we sell our old device or throw it away, we wipe all data from the device and prevent potential abuse. A great many users think, that if they delete data from trash bin they are truly gone and impossible to be recovered. But in reality data remains untouched. When we format the computer, we do the same thing, data remains intact and can be recovered. In our degree paper we discussed, erase, secure erase and recovery of data. We presented the way, how data is stored on device and how such devices - like hard disk drive or flash memory - works. There are some cases of personal data abuse, and explanations, how you wipe all your data from hard drive. For the purpose of recovery data we bought some second hand hard disk drives, personal computers, laptops, usb flash drives and two smart mobile phones. Some of electronics were also acquired in recycling center or landfill. We tried to recover as many data as we can with the help of dedicated software equipment. We found out, that most of users do not delete their data when the old devices are sold or dismissed to a garbage dump. Personal data were found on 14 devices of total 17 devices that we analyzed. In all cases the information could be abused for scams and cause damage to the owners.
