Abstract:	Diplomsko delo, Slovenski izseljenci v Lorainu, Ohio, od leta 1894 do leta 1945, je predstavitev zgodovine slovenske priseljenske skupnosti v Lorainu v Ohiu, od priselitve prvih slovenskih izseljencev do konca 40. let 20. stoletja, še zlasti pa njihov proces prilagajanja novemu okolju. Preučevanje člankov slovensko-ameriškega časopisja Amerikanski Slovenec, Glasilo K. S. K. Jednote, Ameriška domovina in Prosveta mi je omogočilo pridobitev avtentičnih zapiskov slovenskih priseljencev v naselbini Lorain. Podatke sem pridobila še iz literature, internetnih virov in iz zbornika SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, ki je izšel ob 75. obletnici ustanovitve slovenske župnije Sv. Cirila in Metoda v Lorainu leta 1980, katerega mi je velikodušno posodil upokojeni ljubljanski nadškof msgr. Alojz Uran. Ker obsega diplomsko delo obdobje velikega izseljenskega vala v začetku 20. stoletja, sem povzela le kratko zgodovino izseljevanja Slovencev v Ameriko. V nadaljevanju naloge sem predstavila tudi razvoj samega mesta Lorain, ki je zaradi hitrega razvoja industrije privabil številne izseljence z vsega sveta, med njimi tudi Slovence. Še posebno pozornost sem namenila tamkajšnjim krajevnim društvom bratskih podpornih organizacij, slovenski župniji Sv. Cirila in Metoda in Slovenskemu narodnemu domu, ki so predstavljali osnovno obliko organiziranosti slovenskih priseljencev v naselbinah po Ameriki. Poleg vsakodnevnega življenja, kjer sem predstavila razna kulturna in družabna društva, politične aktivnosti in gospodarske dejavnosti ameriških Slovencev, naloga zajema tudi njihov odnos in pomoč do oddaljene domovine, tako med prvo kot med drugo svetovno vojno.

Title:	SLOVENE EMIGRANTS IN LORAIN, OHIO FROM THE YEAR 1894 UNTIL 1945
Abstract:	The diploma thesis, Slovene emigrants to Lorain, Ohio from 1894 until 1945, is a presentation of the history of the Slovene immigrants community in Lorain in Ohio, from the immigration of the first Slovene immigrants till the end of 40s of the 20th century, especially their process of adjustment to the new environment. Exploring the articles of Slovenian-American newspaper Amerikanski Slovenec, Glasilo K.S.K. Jednote, Ameriška domovina and Prosveta enable me to obtain authentic records of the Slovene immigrants from a settlement Lorain. The information I gained from literature, electronic sources, and from a booklet Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, which was published on the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Slovenian parish of SS. Cyril and Methodius in Lorain in 1980, that was generously lent from Msgr. Alojz Uran, retired Archbishop of Ljubljana. Since a diploma thesis includes a period of a large immigration wave in the early 20th century, I summarized only a brief history of immigration of Slovenes to America. In continuation of thesis I presented also the development of the town Lorain, which due to the rapid industry development attracted numerous immigrants from all over the world, including the Slovenes. Special attention was given to their local lodges of Slovene fraternal benefit organisations, Slovenian parish of Ss. Cyril and Methodius and the Slovenian national home, which represented the basic form of organisation of Slovene emigrants in settlements across America. In addition to everyday life, where were presented various cultural and sociable associations, political and economic activities of the American Slovenes, a thesis also includes their relationship and help to distant homeland, so between the first and the second world war.
