Abstract:Magistrska naloga obravnava fenomen akademske prokrastinacije v teoriji in praksi ter raziskuje vloge perfekcionizma, anksioznosti in depresivnosti kot njenih dejavnikov. V raziskavi so sodelovali 403 študenti (68.7% žensk) prvega in drugega letnika prve ter prvega in drugega letnika druge bolonjske stopnje različnih fakultet Univerze v Mariboru. Pridobljene podatke smo zbrali s pomočjo lestvice akademske prokrastinacije, lestvice perfekcionizma, lestvice depresivnosti in lestvice anksioznosti. Slednji obenem napovedujeta akademsko prokrastinacijo. Odnos med stopnjo anksioznosti in akademsko prokrastinacijo moderira dimenzija perfekcionizma osebni standardi, medtem ko odnos med stopnjo depresivnosti in akademsko prokrastinacijo moderirata dimenziji pričakovanja staršev ter organiziranost. Naše ugotovitve so pomembne za obravnavano področje, saj natančneje pojasnjujejo naravo odnosa med spremenljivkami akademske prokrastinacije, dimenzijami perfekcionizma, anksioznostjo in depresivnostjo. Razumevanje narave tega odnosa prispeva k praktičnim implikacijam znotraj akademskega in kliničnega konteksta.

Title:Factors in academic procrastination: the role of perfectionism, anxiety and depression
Abstract:The objective of this master’s thesis was to research the phenomenon of academic procrastination both empirically and theoretically, and to research the roles of anxiety, depression, and the construct of perfectionism as factors of procrastination. Over the course of our research, we analysed a group of Slovenian students to find out whether there are any important connections among these factors, and to ascertain the extent to which anxiety, depression, and specific dimensions of perfectionism can predict the level of a student's academic procrastination. Our main research interest was verifying the roles of specific dimensions of perfectionism as moderators in predicting academic procrastination in conjunction with anxiety and depression levels. This research project included 403 students (68.7% of which were female) in either their first or second year of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at various faculties at the University of Maribor. We acquired our data using a scale for academic procrastination, a scale for perfectionism, a scale for depression and a scale for anxiety. The participants ranked themselves on these scales either before or after class. The analysis of the results shows that there are statistically important connections between academic procrastination and the dimensions of perfectionism, wherein certain dimensions proved to be good indicators of academic procrastination. The dimensions of perfectionism and academic procrastination also form important links with anxiety and depression, which both predict academic procrastination. The relationship between anxiety levels and academic procrastination is moderated by personal standards (as a dimension of perfectionism), while the relationship between depression levels and academic procrastination is moderated by the dimensions of structure and parents' expectations. Our findings represent a significant contribution to the field in question, as they provide a more specific explanation of the relationships between anxiety, depression, the dimensions of perfectionism, and the variables of academic procrastination. These findings also contribute to understanding practical implications within an academic and clinical context.
