Title:FEMALE ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN SLOVENIA
Abstract:The purpose of this diploma thesis was to study the characteristics of entrepreneurship in Slovenia and determine the obstacles female entrepreneurs are facing when starting a business. We were also interested in the role of women on leading positions. In the theoretical part we first explained what entrepreneurship is and stated some definitions by different authors. We also clarified the term female entrepreneurship and studied the characteristics of female entrepreneurs in Slovenia, as well as the role of women on leading positions and the obstacles they need to overcome when starting business. In the empirical part of the thesis we performed interviews with three different female entrepreneurs and then compared their answers. We determined that regardless of age they share almost the same opinion, which is that women are different leaders than men, for they are more sensual, willing to listen and think about certain things differently than men do and even react in a different way. We found out that the encouragement for a successful start of business by women comes from family members and all three interviewed entrepreneurs agreed that female entrepreneurship is now more encouraged than in the past, but still not enough. If we compare the interviewed female entrepreneurs with other entrepreneurs in Slovenia (based on conducted surveys in the available literature), we can conclude that they share similar characteristics and way of thinking.
Keywords:entrepreneurship in Slovenia, differences between female and male entrepreneurs, female entrepreneurship, obstacles in the process of becoming an entrepreneur, the role of women on leading positions, encouragement of female entrepreneurship
