Title:The effects of lighting in a media event
Abstract:Just as work is a crucial part of human daily activities, so is our free time, in which we dedicate ourselves to whatever relaxes us, fills us with new and fresh energy, gives us momentum and new knowledge, and weaves stronger family or social bonds. Attending some kind of event is undoubtedly one of the activities by which we can enjoy all of the above and possibly even more, obviously provided that everything about the event runs as planned and thus satisfies our expectations of it. Part of these, of course, is a quality lighting experience of the event, as this can influence those attending it positively or negatively. What we researched in this thesis is in what measure we are actually conscious and aware of the influence and importance of lighting, as experienced by the audience or viewer. We researched the difference between the evaluation of an entertainment event and a cultural event, between opinions on perception and awareness of lighting when attending an event on location versus experiencing it via a television broadcast, and also what the actual differences in the setup or use of ligthing are when an event is being taped or broadcast by a TV crew. Whether we realize it or not, the use of lighting often strongly influences our sensations, feelings, emotional reactions and even our opinions on all other factors of an event, e.g. The scenography and set, wardrobe and costumes, even the performance itself. Consequently, lighting is to be considered an essential and far from negligible integral part of an event, often of decisive importance in our positive or negative evaluation of the event itself.
