Abstract:V zadnjih nekaj desetletjih smo v razvitih zahodnih družbah priča številnim spremembam v družini.
Keywords:očetovski dopust, starševski dopust, neprenosljivi del starševskega dopusta, predlog Zakona o starševskem varstvu in družinskih prejemkih.

Title:Father’s role in the light of the proposition of the Parental protection and family benefits act
Abstract:The family in Western societies has been subjected to many changes in the past few decades. One of those is the increased participation of fathers in the family life (in taking care of the child/children and doing family/household chores). The governments also often contribute to increase of the participation of fathers in the family life by introducing various forms of parental leave, intended only for or also for fathers. The empirical part of the master’s thesis was thus focused on the participation of fathers in the family life (in taking care of the child/children and doing family/household chores) and to verify whether the fathers would be more likely to use the parental leave, would it be non-transferable, and also if it would increase the level of fathers’ participation in the family life (in taking care of the child/children and doing family/household chores). A questionnaire was designed and filled out by 230 fathers and mothers in Slovenia. The gathered data was analysed with the SPSS program, and the final results have shown that fathers put their opinions, standpoints and convictions into reality and that the passing of non-transferable parental leave would indeed contribute to an increased benefit of the parental leave by the fathers.
Keywords:paternity leave, parental leave, non-transferable part of the parental leave, proposition of the Parental Protection and Family Benefit Act.
