Abstract:V letih 2012 in 2013 je bil na posestvu Fakultete za kmetijstvo in biosistemske vede Univerze v Mariboru izveden poskus v ekološkem nasadu jablan sorte Topaz.

Title:A comparison of two systems of apple production at variety Topaz
Abstract:In years 2012 and 2013 an experiment in an organic orchard of Topaz apple trees was conducted at the estate of the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, University of Maribor. Our aim was to determine, how planting specific herbs and shrubs between apple trees impacts the emergence of pests and diseases in an ecological apple tree orchard. In the space between the trees we had planted herbs: common wormwood and rosemary; and shrubs blackberries, hazel and elder. With this we changed the micro-ecosystem of the orchard. At the same time we have had unmanaged green understory for a whole year. In a half of the orchard we conducted pest and disease control using organic products, and in the other half we did not use any products for plant protection. The results show that planting herbs and shrubs between apple trees has an impact on the population dynamics of pests and beneficial insects. The use of organic sprays somewhat reduced the population of beneficial insects. The most evident was the impact of organic sprays in a very small population of predatory mites. It was also shown that a specific plant can have the opposite effect with one type of beneficial or harmful insect, than with the other. Due to planting hazel between apple trees we could thus perhaps have more predatory mites, less aphids, but more codling moth. Planting the studied plants would certainly increase the diversity of beneficial insects in the apple tree orchard.
