Title:COMPARING THE IMPACT OF RECESSION ON SLOVENIA AND SLOVAKIA
Abstract:World economy was very much infected by the global financial crisis. The roots of crisis came from the most developed financial market in the world. In the second part of the year 2008 the crisis triggered the collapse of financial markets all over the world. Stock market indexes all over the world were decreasing very fast, financial institutions and loan activity was completely crushed. The crisis spread from USA to Europe very fast, and left very deep wounds on all financial institutions. The banks, insurance companies and other financial institutions were getting bankrupt. Big losses on the financial markets brought us to the point where the trust into a market was at the very low point. Simply said, the trust among banks was very low, so the logical result is the decrease of loan activity. Slovenia and Slovakia as two young opened economies were not left unaffected in the time of global financial crisis. Banks in both countries did not record massive losses or bankruptcies as in the rest of the world’s countries. The countries were affected in liquidity, decrease of loan activity and decline of production. Also the unemployment was getting higher in the companies which were mostly focused on export. Central banks and other financial institutions, are trying together with special packages to decrease the impact of the financial crisis.
