Abstract:In this degree paper, titled Excessive body weight and obesity in connection with physical activity during the pre-school period, we intended to find out if and to what extent physical activity affects excessive body weight and obesity of a pre-school child, based on literature and other sources. We described children's physical development, factors of development, the role of parents and teachers and how physical activities affect physical development. We looked for causes of excessive body weight and obesity, their consequences for one's health and ways to prevent their occurrence. We discussed the importance of physical activity for child's physical development, possibilites for physical activity and the importance of planned physical activity. We researched the role of physical activity in connection with the prevention of excessive body weight and obesity. Our research establishes the fact that excessive body weight and obesity are increasingly present among children and that this problem needs to be dealt with on a higher level in connection with different institutions. In order to avoid the increase of this problem, it is essential to provide for prevention in the form of a healthy life-style, which includes healthy diet and regular physical activity.
