Abstract:V magistrski nalogi smo preučevali povprečne dosežke Slovenije v mednarodnih raziskavah znanja.

Title:SLOVENIA IN INTERNATIONAL EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT STUDIES
Abstract:In this MA paper, we examined the average scores achieved by Slovenia in different international educational achievement studies. We briefly summarized the Slovene scores in the international educational achievement studies, carried out so far by the Pedagoški inštitut. Of course, the majority of our attention was allotted to the PISA study and the TIMSS study, which are known as the most extensive studies of educational achievement also including Slovenia. We did a review of Slovene scores through different cycles of the studies' implementation. We analyzed and compared the average scores of Slovenia in the PISA study between the years 2006, 2009 and 2012, and in the TIMSS study between the years 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. The studies were analyzed with the use of international reports, issued not more than two years after the implementation of each of the studies. We set two main hypotheses. We assumed that Slovenia scored above the OECD average in all the PISA and TIMSS studies implemented to date. The second hypothesis is that Slovenia’s average scores in the PISA and TIMSS studies to date got higher every year. We illustrated the ranking of Slovenia compared to other countries with tables from different international and national studies reports. We found out that in most cases Slovenia indeed produced scores higher than the OECD average. The only scores below average were achieved in the PISA study by Slovene students in the area of reading literacy in the year 2009 and 2012. The second hypothesis was also only partially confirmed. The average score of Slovenia was higher every year in the TIMSS study, however, the same cannot be said for the PISA study. In the latter, our scores decreased in the areas of science literacy and reading literacy over the span of three years, while the score for mathematical literacy has been stagnant since 2009.
