Title:Germany between the years 1933 and 1941 in the eyes of the Slovenec and Slovenski narod newspapers
Abstract:In my diploma thesis I have focused on the significant historic period of Germany between 1933 and 1941 which led to fatal consequences for the whole world while focusing on the perspective of the newspapers Slovenian and Slovenian nation. After the collapse of the New York Stock Exchange in 1929, the crisis also occurred in Europe, hitting Germany especially hard due to its strong links to US loans, which were granted after the First World War. In 1933, Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler as the German Chancellor. Just a few months were needed by the National Socialists to terminate democratic levers of power and introduce a dictatorship in the country. For Germany failing to comply with the rules of the Versailles Treaty, also winner countries are to blame because of their appeasement policy. Within a few years, Hitler managed to transform the defeated country into a military superpower to subject almost the whole of Europe in the first two years of the war. When writing the diploma thesis I analysed the newspapers Slovenec and Slovenski narod and thus got an interesting insight into the 1930s and information on how well the Slovenian public was informed about the actual situation in Nazi Germany.
