Title:Inclusion of yoga elements in physical education
Abstract:The present thesis »Inclusion of yoga elements in physical education« initially introduces the importance of physical education for a healthy development of children and in this framework the importance of achieving and maintaining physical agility. Further on it gives an insight into physical education in grammar schools while emphasising the activities related to physical skills of agility. Furthermore, yoga is introduced as exercise technique with all its positive impacts on the overall development of a person. The second part of the thesis deals in particular with possible options to include yoga in physical education. As concluded, the initial and final parts of physical education seem to be most suitable, namely, in the initial part of physical education as support for warming up and as supplement to or replacement of gymnastics workout, while in the final part in form of stretching and relaxation. Especially stretching or flexibility exercises after physical exercise lack necessary attention in schools, and if anyway applied, then for the most part only with simple exercises. Hence, yoga or related selected exercises provide a variety of additional activities that can further diversify physical education and at the same time contribute to the development and enhancement of physical agility that is of major importance for a healthy and harmonious physical development of each and every one.
