Abstract:V magistrskem delu sem se ukvarjala z iskanjem podob tujega in drugega v Majcnovi prozi in dramatiki na podlagi literature o imagologiji, Majcnovem življenju, delu in njegovem mestu v slovenski književnosti. Predvsem so ga privlačili nenavadni človeški liki, nemoč njegovih središčnih oseb, razmerja v družbi in vprašanja, na katera ni imel dokončnega odgovora.

Title:Images of foreign and other in Majcen's prose and dramatics
Abstract:In this thesis, I focused on finding the images of the foreign and the other in Majcen's prose and dramatics on the basis of literature about imagology, Majcen's life, his works and his position in Slovene literature. Majcen was active in all three literary genres, within which he touched upon Expressionism, new Romanticism, decadent topics. He was mostly attracted to unusual human characters, powerlessness of his main characters, relations in society, and questions for which he had no final answer. He was interested in the fate of women, gender relationship, but he often depicted female characters because he thought they were the ones more capable of a deeper experience, defiance, and had greater moral purity and sensitivity to others. All of this was a basis for the research of the images of the foreign and the other, though the latter appears in Majcen’s works more often. The most frequent appearance in Majcen’s works is a female character; he distanced himself from a typical image of a woman, women are also those who find it difficult to accept changes and anyone different from themselves. Majcen writes about black people (mostly women), who are accepted by residents with interest, curiosity, but also aggressiveness. One of the more frequent characters is also a refugee, who is not understood by wealthier people, they help him only for their own benefit and well-being. In Majcen’s work a foreign country often serves as an outline for cosmopolitan areas, different from the domestic one.
