Abstract:V magistrski nalogi smo raziskovali dejavnike socialnega kapitala na slovenskem podeželju.

Title:Determinants of social capital in slovenian rural areas
Abstract:In the master thesis we have studied several factors of social capital in Slovenian rural areas, on the basis of the data collected in the Slovenian public opinion study (2013). We have analysed the respondents with respect to the type of their local community (urban n = 335, suburban n=119, village n = 539). The study of the village communities in Slovenia revealed low levels of social capital. Several key elements of social capital were measured: generalized confidence, confidence in institutions, participation in different associations. Interregional differences of the elements of social capital (generalized confidence, confidence in institutions, membership in different associations) are generally small and statistically insignificant, and the respondents on average express low levels of confidence and have low rates of participation in different associations. Based on the previous studies of social capital in rural communities we anticipated a positive correlation of the elements of social capital with the economic development of the regions. Despite small differences in social capital levels among different regions of Slovenia, the analysis showed that the regions with populations expressing the highest levels of institutional confidence and participation in different associations also have the highest regional GDP per capita. We found that age does not have a significant effect on the levels of social capital, while on the other hand statistically significant differences between urban and village communities were revealed. Future studies of social capital in Slovenian rural areas are needed, since (with the exception of the geographic study by Slavič (2009)) no sociological studies of social capital, focused on the Slovenian rural areas, could be found.
