Abstract:Sodobne turistične destinacije morajo na vedno bolj zahtevnem turističnem trgu iskati svoje priložnosti s pomočjo inovativnih pristopov in s poudarjanjem svojih konkurenčnih prednosti, saj se sicer zlijejo s povprečjem in slej ko prej izginejo s turističnega zemljevida. Pridobljene podatke smo nato analizirali, povzeli in predstavili, z njihovo pomočjo preverili zastavljene hipoteze in podteze, ter podali zaključne izsledke raziskave. Upamo, da bo izdelan model uporaben pripomoček prihodnjim snovalcem razvoja turistične destinacije Žička kartuzija z okolico in navdih drugim manjšim podeželskim turističnim destinacijam po Sloveniji (in v tujini), ki še iščejo svoje edinstvene razlikovalne lastnosti. Morda jih to delo navdahne, da jih poiščejo v svoji bogati in edinstveni preteklosti.

Title:Carthusian Mindset as the Basis for Innovative Model of Rural Tourism Destinations’ Development
Abstract:Modern tourist destinations have to look for their opportunities on an increasingly demanding tourist market through innovative approaches and highlighting their competitive advantages, otherwise they blend into the average and sooner or later disappear from the tourist map. Smaller, rural tourist destinations have to work on these issues even more intensively. It is important for them to look for their unique distinguishing features that make them different from others and therefore also attractive and competitive, in their traditions, history, locals, interesting stories and not try to blindly copy the recipes of other established tourist destinations, since such approach does not bring success in the long run. This study introduces an innovative model of responsible development of rural tourism destination, developed on the basis of the history of the area, which was strongly affected by the presence of the Carthusian order. We have incorporated the Carthusian philosophy / mindset into the model and created it on the basis of triple bottom line categories, which are in harmony with the Carthusian values. We have initially identified the Carthusian values through studying the Carthusian rules, further on we searched for indicators of these values in destinations today and later on identified the importance of each indicator for the destination, the reason for its inclusion in the study and its method of measurement. In the end we tested the model in practice on the tourist destination Charterhouse Žiče and its surroundings. This work consists of the theoretical and empirical part. The first presents a theoretical framework that investigates destination management, sustainable development of tourist destinations, social responsibility, and history of the Carthusian order and in its conclusion presents a conceptual model of innovative development of rural tourism destinations based on the Carthusian mindset. In its empirical part, this model is tested in practice. The model was tested by means of qualitative analysis of semi-structured in-depth interviews carried out with twenty-seven people, selected on the basis of their activities in the destination, which could be somehow attributed to the Carthusian values. The quantitative analysis was also carried out on the same sample of people. We then analyzed the data obtained in order to carry out the verification of our hypotheses and sub-theses and to present the final results of the research. We hope that the introduced model becomes a useful tool for creators of the future development of tourist destination Charterhouse Žiče with its surroundings, and also inspires other small rural tourist destinations in Slovenia (and abroad) who are still looking for their unique distinguishing characteristics. Maybe this work inspires them to look for such elements in their unique and rich history.
