Title:SCHOOL COUNSELLOR COMPETENCiES IN EDUCATION
Abstract:The diploma work entitled School Counsellor Competencies in Education consists of theoretical and empirical part. Based on the literature, the theoretical part presents school counselling service, and its tasks and areas of activity in elementary school. We also presented a role of a school counsellor. In the second half of the theoretical part we examined competencies. We have presented different theories and definitions of competences at levels that cover key, general and specific. In the empirical part there is a survey presented which was carried out among counsellors in elementary schools in Pomurje region. By using questionnaires, we tried to find out how developed school counsellors’ competencies are, and study various factors that influence and contribute to the development of competences. We used a descriptive and causal-non-experimental method of pedagogic research. We discovered that school counsellors rate their competencies relatively good. Within certain competencies there is still room for improvement, but most important is that counsellors are aware of this fact. The most effective showed to be areas of knowing the laws and teamwork and also collaboration with other institutions or associations. The most poorly rated was the capacity for planning and time management, and evaluation of their work.
Keywords:counselling, school counselling service, council worker, competencies, key competencies, general competencies, specific competencies.
